Indulge intelligentially this long weekend!
As Easter is just around the corner, many of you may start to worry about overindulging, breaking your fitness rhythm which you've worked so hard to build or forcing yourself to resist tempting foods. That doesn't have to be the case! Holidays should be pleasurable occasions and eating should be enjoyable.
Here are my 6 tips to help you enjoy a guilt free-Easter:
#1 - Use a smaller plate.
As humans we like to see a full plate regardless of plate size so even if you fill up the small plate, your brain is tricked into thinking that this plate of food will be more than filling. By cutting the portion sizes, you are cutting the amount of calories you consume.
#2 - Go dark.
Opt for the dark chocolate variations as they generally have lower sugar content than white or milk chocolate and is abundant in flavanols, which are antioxidants
#3 - Start with water.
Drink a glass or two of water before your meal. This will both fill your stomach before you eat, leaving less room to indulge but will also help increase your metabolism.
#4 - Salad before mains.
Kick-start your meal by finishing your salad bowl. Not only do vegetables provide an abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals; the water and fiber help suppress your appetite and is great for your gut bacteria.
#5 - Plain chocolate eggs > creamy eggs.
Eggs loaded with gooey fillings contain significantly more calories than plain chocolate ones. If you want to avoid excessive intakes of sugar and fat, avoid indulging in these high-calorie bombs.
#6 - JUST RELAX!
It's not the end of the world if you overindulge slightly. Don't deprive yourself as you may crave and end up bingeing. Remember, you can start again on Monday so go easy on yourself and enjoy this time with your friends or family.
As a chocolate lover myself, I'll try my best to practice what I preach :)
